MASTA ACE REVEALS THAT HE HAS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
Masta Ace has announced he has multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve.
Masta Ace says that he is now comfortable making the announcement that he has MS for a variety of reasons.
“Once I had felt like people had accepted me musically and lyrically as an artist, then I knew if I was ready to reveal it, that I wasn’t going to feel like, ‘Are people just showing me love ‘cause they heard about my diagnosis and it’s not even real?’” Masta Ace says. “I wanted it to be real and I felt like it was real and genuine. I felt like I had accomplished what I wanted to do. That, and I was tired of hiding from it. It’s part of who I am. Me and my wife talked about it and she was like, whenever you feel like you’re ready.’ She’s been a huge, huge support system for me going through a lot of that stuff.”
Just as he changed his diet, Masta Ace has changed his outlook on other aspects of his life. He’s done things he says he probably would have never tried without being diagnosed with MS. He’s skied, snowboarded several times and went paragliding.
Masta Ace is still performing around the world and he’s also planning to release a project with eMC in 2014.
“A lot of people, they get a diagnosis and you can go in the tank,” Masta Ace says. “You can kind of just get depressed and start the, ‘Woe is me’ and all of that, but I took the diagnosis and really, really ran with it, did. I’ve been touring 12 years-plus, feeling strong, being energetic. When I perform, I give a lot of energy. I always have, but even more so since the diagnosis. I jump around and use the stage. All of that is because I don’t know what down the road I’m going to be able to do physically. If I can jump around now, I’m going to jump around.
“My hope in making my diagnosis known is that other people out there going through something similar, maybe not MS but some other health challenge, might be inspired, motivated or encouraged in some way to live their lives to the fullest,” Masta Ace continues. “I think my revealing this may help somebody out there. At least that’s my hope.”

FAMED NEW YORK GRAFFITI SPACE 5 POINTZ SET FOR DEMOLITION
After months of public rallies and petitioning against the decision, the landmark graffiti space known as 5 Pointz in Queens, New York has been approved for demolition following an October the 9th decision by the New York City Council officially permitting a developer’s plan to construct a 1,000 unit apartment complex in its place.
The planned demolition will put an end to a history spanning more than 20 years in which 5 Pointz served as a city-sanctioned outdoor exhibition space for graffiti artists. Proponents of the project have long championed the owner of the building’s provision of a formal space for graffiti artists to conduct their artwork as well as a safe alternative to illegal painting. The founder of the 5 Pointz collective, Jonathan Cohen, said “If it were to happen, it would be no different than tearing down the MOMA or the Guggenheim,” Cohen said in reference to two of New York City’s more prestigious fine-art museums. “It is not just any other building with graffiti on it. It is the epicenter for graffiti artists from all over the world.”
This Friday 22nd November Mat.Joe will be in the the studio with Brian Murphy for an exclusive mix!
Mat.Joe. Matze and Johannes, two young men with a Hip Hop and House affection conquering Berlin.
Their productions come to life in a Neukölln backyard where studio equipment and DJ decks meet desiccated plants. A natural development when music has become the top priority from dusk till dawn.
Back in 2006, Rap, Breakdance and Skateboarding were the passions that made them best buddies and this deep connection is reflected in their music, again and again. In 2008, they formed the producer team Twomanics and concentrated on authentic and credible hip hop productions for independent artists. Originally from Hannover, they moved to Berlin for new artistic challenges and after MySpace, mixtapes and Candy, Mat.Joe have found their own style: crispy Housebeats paired with rhythmic Soul and Hip Hop elements. The result is deep and dancefloor-qualified, warm and rough.
Inspiration is found everywhere between subway rides, late night showers and favorite bars. New ideas are kept manically on every smartphone nearby. This is sound autism at the highest stage. Mat.Joe’s love for music and the ambition to improve are the main ingredients that keep the engine running. See you there.
Tune in this Friday 22nd November from 1am!

TUPAC BIOPIC SET TO START FILMING NEXT YEAR
A Tupac biopic is to begin shooting in spring 2014. Producers and financiers from Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, including Randall Emmett, whose production credits include End Of Watch and 2 Guns, had a reception in Santa Monica, California last week to announce the news.
The film has been on hold since 2011, when Morgan Creek and Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, engaged in a legal battle over the biopic. The company sued Tupac’s mother, claiming she had signed over the rights to Tupac’s music and story, and then tried to continue negotiating for creative control of the project, billboard.com says. The situation was settled out of court and Shakur is now an executive producer of the forthcoming project, the story says.
The billboard.com story does not identify any actors who are slated to appear in the film. On the film’s IMDB page, no cast and crew is listed, other than the production staff and the film’s writers.
In September, Morgan Creek Productions and Emmett Furla Films issued a press release that the biopic would be produced by James G. Robinson, David Robinson and LT Hutton, along with Randall Emmett and George Furtla. That press release said that the motion picture would be filmed in Atlanta and that it would be centered on the life of Tupac, with the press release referring to Pac’s “politically charged lyrics, inspired by his parents’ activism as Black Panthers in the ’60s and early ’70s, condemned governmental intrusion in black communities.”
Tupac was shot in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 7, 1996. He died six days later.
TRINIDAD JAMES SAYS ATLANTA IS THE NEW NEW YORK
During a performance at the Converse Rubber Tracks show in New York City, Atlanta rapper Trinidad James didn’t hesitate in sharing his opinion on the city’s place in today’s Hip Hop. The “All Gold Everything” creator even went on to state that the South runs New York City musically and rappers in the area might as well claim the city of Atlanta as their hometown.
“I remember when New York ran this, dog,” said Trinidad. “When Dipset turned up. Oh my God. I gotta wear my bandana on tilt like Juelz. What happened, dog? What happened? I remember when New York rap was the best and we just did our own thing. But now we run y’all musically. That’s crazy. That’s crazy. That’s crazy. I looked up to New York music. And now everyone that’s really poppin’ out of New York, you might as well tell they from Atlanta.
During his conversation with the audience, who responded with occasional words of approval and disapproval, Trinidad referenced Kendrick Lamar’s “king of New York” mention on “Control” and questioned why the Compton rapper is just now getting props for his music.
The Def Jam signee also touched on his upcoming studio album and revealed that the album is better than most projects out.
DIDDY EXPLAINS HIS SUCCESS AND WHY HE KEEPS GOING
In a recent interview with Vlad TV, Diddy explained what keeps his drive alive. “I think the key for me to be able to handle the peaks and valleys of life is my relationship with God, and also my belief on never, never, never giving up,” said Diddy. “I’m just never gonna give up. There’s no reason to give up. It’s not in my DNA.”
Diddy continued, crediting Hip Hop for much of his success. “I’ve been truly blessed,” he said. “I’ve made it through a lot, and I say this all the time: I thank God for Hip Hop. And I thank God for my Hip Hop family, and everyone that has supported me, because I wouldn’t have been able to make it to where I’m at without people believing in my dreams and also supporting things that I’ve had dreams to do.”
Diddy explained that his increased humility and collaborative spirit has allowed him to grow. “You know, I’ve grown a lot, and I’m still the best at taklin’, but I’m more humble than I’ve ever been, and I’m humbled by just the things that I’ve been able to dream into existence through the help of other people,” he said. “There’s no ‘I’ in ‘team,’ and I have a great team of people around me, and I take pride in my staff. I’ve moved on from just ‘I’ to ‘we.’ I don’t just do it for me and my crew no more. I really do it for us. I know at the end of the day, for some people that sounds good, but that’s my truth. My motivation is, I want to make sure my kids and our kids can see that it can be done. That if you’re a person of any color, and you have a dream in your heart, especially if you’re a person coming from my community, the African American community, where it’s a lot of turmoil and a lot of loss of hope, that there is hope, and you can do anything that you can put your mind to.”

KENDRICK LAMAR TALKS ABOUT HIS PLANS FOR HIS NEXT ALBUM
Kendrick Lamar says he isn’t trying to force the creativity for his next album, which is set to follow last year’s good kid, m.A.A.d city release.
“I’m letting the inspiration come for sure,” Lamar said during an interview with MTV. “If I knock myself into the wall, I’ll probably be out the game for a minute because it’s stressful trying to be creative rather than letting creativity come to you and being inspired by something.”
During the interview, Lamar also spoke about the importance of challenging himself and not listening to his previous release often.
“Man if I wasn’t onstage, I probably wouldn’t be listening to it after the day I put it out,” he said. “I don’t like to get stuck in doing something so I move on and do my next joint, I don’t want to get caught up in it sounding the same or being locked in to what I’ve done already. I always want to elevate myself and challenge myself.”
So far, Lamar says he has plans for the new album.
“I definitely got ideas; ideas for sure,” he said. “Going back in and locking in, I haven’t done that yet, but I have ideas and I know what I want to do.”
Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city was released in 2012. The album has been certified platinum by the RIAA. This year, Lamar was named one of GQ’s men of the year, appearing on one of the magazine’s various covers for the issue.

DRAKE SICK OF PEOPLE LABELING HIM AS LONELY AND EMOTIONAL
Drake has released many emotionally-charged records, but in a recent interview, the Young Money emcee stated that he wasn’t pleased with the labels he feels aren’t fully accurate.
“’I'm so sick of people saying that I’m lonely and emotional, and associating me with this longing for a woman,” said Drizzy, according to HotNewHipHop.com. “I hate that. It bothers me so much…cause I do make music that makes you feel something but I’m actually not that guy in real life. I’m a happy person.”
The Toronto-based rapper refers to himself as “a happy person” during his interview with Jian Ghomeshi of CBC Radio.“I’m not content by any means, I wanna keep working but I’m a happy person,” said Drake. “I’m very excited, my life is constantly exciting. It’s not some sad, depressing story. As far as the soundscapes go, that’s just the music that I chose to make, I make music strictly for the purpose of driving at nighttime.”
On his newly-released third album, Nothing Was The Same, Drake occasionally touches on love, women, and other emotions throughout the project.
According to the Young Money rapper, he was given a set amount of tracks to record for his album, which was released on September 24.
“My right-hand partner in music creation, challenged me on this album to trim that fat,” said Drake. “To make a very concise project and asked me to―actually gave me a song cap. Asked me to keep it at 13 or 14 songs on the original. And so that was an interesting challenge for me. And now that it’s out and the world appreciates it, it’s a great feeling.”
JAY-Z AND THE BRANDS HE REFERENCES MOST IN HIS LYRICS
Rappers reference many brands ranging from Gucci to BMW.To coincide with Jay Z’s cover story,Vanity Fair created a list of Jigga’s “Most Name-Dropped Brands” listed by album.
According to Vanity Fair, Jay’s most referenced brand is Mercedez Benz. Lexus, Maybach, BMW, Range Rover and Porsche.
Another brand that Jay Z has referenced extensively is Cristal, the luxury champagne brand. Cristal was once at least one of Jay Z’s favorite beverages. However, he has also referred to Cristal as racist in different verses since 2006, when the champagne company reportedly attempted to distance itself from Hip Hop.According to the chart, Jay Z referenced brands the most on his 2007 release, American Gangster. He reportedly referenced brands the least amount of times on 2004′s Unfinished Business, a collaborative album Jay Z made with R-Kelly.
NICKI MINAJ RELEASES HER NEW CLOTHING COLLECTION
Nicki Minaj appeared ON October the 15th at a launch event for her Kmart clothing collection. The line, which is also available at shopyourway.com, was inspired by Chanel, Versace and Herve Leger, the rapper says.
The line includes a pink velour track suit, a faux fur trapper hat, midriff-baring tops, patterned leggings and dresses, as well as jewelry, clutches and bejeweled caps.
Items on the line are priced between $3.99 for a studded bracelet and $37.99 for a denim jacket.
Nicki Minaj says that she understands that celebrities such as herself without formal design training may face skepticism from the fashion world, but she said that it’s “not about being a designer.” She says she just wanted to make clothes that she would love to wear.
Since emerging several years ago, Nicki Minaj has been rap’s preeminent female artist.
In 2010, the Queens, New York rapper became the first female emcee to have seven songs on the Billboard Top 200 Singles charts. In 2012, she was a judge on the television program “American Idol.”
“It was such a great experience,” Minaj said of her time on “American Idol” during an interview with eonline.com. “I would not trade it for the world. But my heart is in my music and I had to step back and go have different experiences so that I could write my third album…That’s the most important thing in my life right now.”

LAURYN HILL THANKS FAN’S WITH AN OPEN LETTER
Lauryn Hill posted a “Letter of Recognition” to her supporters on her tumblr page on October the 8th.The letter comes less than a week after the former Fugee’s member was released from prison after being incarcerated for failing to file taxes from 2005 through 2007. Hill had been incarcerated since July 8 at a Danbury, Connecticut prison.
Hill’s letter reads as follows.
“Letter of Recognition –
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who wrote letters and sent packages and books. Because of you there was not one day that I didn’t receive mail while I was away. I appreciated that. Know that many of your letters not only touched me but continued to confirm for me what I already knew but needed to hear again: that sincere expression has a serious purpose. If one of you had been touched, picked up, encouraged or prevented from succumbing to some measure of social or Spiritual decline, then it was worth it. Folks, walk strong, seek light and Universal reproof in all things. Know that man-made concerns and Universal concerns are not always in agreement. Obviously, strive to please God. Thank you again and again.
In Love and Freedom,
Ms. Lauryn Hill

?UESTLOVE TALKS CLASSIC ALBUMS
On top of serving as drummer for Philadelphia-based band The Roots, musician ?uestlove also boasts the title of music snob, and during a recent interview with Vanity Fair, ?uesto went on to break down the qualities he feels make a music snob.
According to ?uestlove, in order to earn the title of music snob you have to be able to form your own conclusions on music and know what’s great without anyone having to tell you.
“We grew up in this idea of the canon and that ‘Okay, this artist named Picasso. He’s the greatest.’ And you just believe it,” said The Roots’ drummer. “‘And this is The Beatles. They’re the greatest.’ And you believe it. ‘Scorsese, he’s the greatest.’ And you believe it. But I need people to come to that conclusion themselves. Not just because an adult told me. That to me is the important part of being a music snob. The real payoff is when you can transfer it to someone else and then they get to see what’s great about it.”
Earlier in the year, ?uestlove took his music expertise to New York University where he taught a Classic Albums course at the Clive Davis Institute for Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. “I decided to teach music at NYU. Here I am, the self-professed musical nerd that is all-knowing, you know, what’s the sense in having 70,000 records or all this useless information about music if you don’t even teach it? My whole goal was just to teach them how to absorb music and how to listen.”
DIDDY GIVES OUT BUSINESS ADVICE
Diddy has donated $250,000 to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).
Diddy addressed his appreciation for NFTE’s efforts in an interview with businessweek.com.
“I think especially with kids from the inner city, they’re natural-born entrepreneurs, because they have to figure out how to survive,” Diddy said. “So they have it in their DNA. An organization like this can show them that they have it inside of them and can show them how to relate what they’re learning in school to their street smarts and street savvy.”
In the interview, Diddy also spoke about business advice he’s cherished over the years.
“It’s a little cliché, but someone taught me, if it doesn’t make dollars, it doesn’t make sense,” Diddy said. “That was after I went through a year where I had lost a lot of money—it was during the start of a recession, and I wasn’t sensitive to the economic climate. I wasn’t paying attention to what was going on in the world. If it’s raining outside, if it’s snowing—you have to know what the climate is in whatever space. I was in the retail space, I didn’t prepare for the storm. The world isn’t perfect, so plan accordingly.”
During the interview, Diddy also spoke about the difference between a college education and hands-on experience.
“If you’re interested in engineering, I’d say, go to college,” Diddy said. “If you’re interested in finance, go to college. But there are other fields where you can get more value out of the experience of working. You might be better off working for free, or paying yourself.”

The Land Bank website doesn’t appear to ask for a minimum bid on the property at 19946 Dresden Street.
Real estate website Zillow estimates the house to be worth $33,000, though mlive says that that value is likely high because the property is surrounded by abandoned and blighted homes.Eminem’s mother was listed as the owner of the property from March 1992 until April 2003,which Eminem spent most of his teenage years in.

JAY-Z TO SELL HIS STAKE IN BROOKLYN NETS
Jay Z is set to sell his share in Barclays Center soon, according to various reports. Jay Z helped in efforts to make the New Jersey Nets become the Brooklyn Nets. After helping that move, Jay Z began a new endeavor with Roc Nation Sports, an agency that has signed several athletes including Robinson Cano, Kevin Durant and Victor Cruz. This may be one reason that Jay Z has relinquished his ownership in the team, as NBA rules do not allow players and-or agents to own part of a team. Jay Z recently sold the remaining part his stake in the Brooklyn Nets organization (one-fifteenth of one percent) to the team’s new head coach, Jason Kidd.
“It doesn’t matter what percentage [I own],” he said during a recent performance at Barclays, “The story is that a Black kid from a single-parent house made it from [Marcy Projects] about six minutes away from here. So the fact that I have any ownership in this franchise is amazing. The fact that I have any ownership in this venue is amazing. Don’t let them diminish your accomplishment or dim your shine.”
