Legendary Manchester music venue Band on The Wall are proud to announce the first round of their winter/spring concerts with a world-class lineup to bring a bit of international musical warmth to the coldest corners of Manchester.

CONCERT

FRIDAY 15 JANUARY • DOORS 8PM • EVENT 8.30PM
JUSTIN ADAMS & JULDEH CAMARA

Justin Adams played guitar and wrote with Robert Plant for eight years and is a renowned producer. His work with Saharan desert blues sensations Tinariwen, Robert Plant’s Strange Sensations band, and his collaborations with Brian Eno, Jah Wobble and LO’JO, have added to his unique style.

His musical partner, Juldeh Camara, is a Gambian griot and master musician. A life-long guardian of the Fula oral tradition, Juldeh’s skills on the riti, a single stringed fiddle, are unparalleled and his astonishing voice combines power with unique delicacy.

This concert also features percussionist Roy Dodds who has played with played and recorded with a wealth of artists including Working Week, Dudu Pukwana’s Zila, Fairground Attraction, Jacqui Dankworth, Theo Travis, John Mcusker, Kris Drever in addition to his very own trio; Lawson Dodds Wood.

Denis Jones is a self-taught guitarist and songwriter from Lancashire. Having begun his musical life as a singer songwriter in the classic UK mould of the likes of John Martyn, he has over the last three years developed a show-stopping live performance based around the core of his exceptional and unique guitar-playing style and rich, soulful voice.

Utilising a loop station and various samplers effects and audio/visual aids, Denis creates vast, complex orchestrations of beat-box rhythms, multi-layered vocals and other-worldly sounds which veer from subtle heart-wrenching folk and blues to heavy bass-driven electronica and ambient soundscapes.

Legendary British-born John Escreet is one of the great talents of his generation. Both pianist and composer, his original and powerful playing have gripped audiences the world over and since settling in New York has worked his way to the core of that city’s thriving jazz scene playing with Wayne Krantz, Seamus Blake, Chris Potter, Dan Weiss and many more.

Band on the Wall is delighted to welcome this exciting and inspirational musician to the stage with his own band featuring some of the most exciting musicians currently operating out of the bustling New York City jazz scene.

Nitin Sawhney hosts the Aftershock International launch party and club night where he will spin some blistering ranging from trip-hop to deep house, ambient sounds and beyond as well as introducing specially invited Aftershock DJ’s, MC’s and vocalists from the UK and Europe including Fyzah, Matt Halsall and Abraxxxas.

Nitin Sawhney gives his life story through music, film, performance, theatre, dance and video games. Internationally-acclaimed composer, music and film maker, he talks about his career across numerous creative platforms embracing his work from the last 20 years. This talk is held in Band on The Wall Picturehouse Cafe Bar.

Aftershock is unique musical collaboration between an internationally assembled group of rising new artists from Manchester, Genova and Marseille. They will be working intensively for 10 days at Band on the Wall alongside acclaimed musician, composer and producer Nitin Sawhney to create an incredible new one-off performance. Soul and R&B meet avant-garde experimental electronica and French hip-hop blends with folk and nu-jazz. Sawhney and Aftershock’s international array of talent will create an extraordinary and completely unique musical event that will be performed once only.
