Unity Radio at Work
Unity Radio repsects young people…………
Unity Radio is now supplying workshops for agencies that work with young people across Manchester. Having already worked with the Fairbridge, Manchester City Council, CornerHouse, TIPP, New Islington, New East Manchester and Trafford and Stockport Council, we have enough experience and confidence in our abilities to provide a program for young people that truly delivers.
Our programs will give young people the opportunity to be tutored by some of the most prolific and well known artists in Manchester. Unity Radio will not only teach and encourage the participants to develop skills, but give advice about how to become involved in the industry.
Street culture allows anyone to be included in the music and art scenes without having qualifications. Recognition can be achieved by persistence and involvement in the relevant circles.
The fundamental principle of hip-hop culture is that passion and dedication are rewarded; fame and recognition are received from ones peers in each skill. A breakdancer may also rap, or a rapper may also be a graffiti artist.
This overlap of expression means that each person can find an outlet in at least one area of the culture. This overlap also means that there are no limitations placed on people, they are simply encouraged to do as much as they feel they can do.

Many young people feel that their music and art are not represented or respected in the mainstream pop culture. They see pop culture as being bland and uninspiring, with an emphasis on conformity and following the latest trends – all to a backing track of the latest chart music.
Unity are seeking to provide an antidote to this, creating an environment that encourages young people to express themselves in the way they want to, and in a manner that they can relate to.
