Izzy Bizu chats to Kennedy Taylor about her summer plans, how she got into music and her ultimate dream. She also talks about her other passions and upcoming music.
Izzy Bizu is a pop-oriented R&B artist whose material has switched between (and fused to) retro and contemporary sounds. The down-to-earth singer and songwriter, a native of South West London, England, debuted in 2013 with Coolbeanz, an independently released EP that sold over 50,000 copies, supported by BBC DJs Trevor Nelson and Zane Lowe, among others. By the end of the year, Bizu’s fan base grew as she opened for Sam Smith and Jamie Cullum. The following year, she performed at Glastonbury and signed to the U.K. wing of major label Epic. A handful of singles were issued in 2015 and ranged from the dusty retro-soul of “Diamond” to the peppy disco-funk of “White Tiger.” These led to a nomination in BBC’s Sound of 2016 poll (won by Jack Garratt). A Moment of Madness, Bizu’s debut album, was due for release in 2016.
